(happy little melody, and the children sing...)

No, you can't have one without the other
Ya just can't have one without the uh-ther
No matter what we say, it's true every day,
-it's a disturbing twist, but neither can exist
You simply can't - have - one, (clap, clap,)
without the uhhh-uh-uh-therrrrr.

Sadly, the article in The Independent comes as no surprise. The policy around here is to tell the people what they want to hear until it's crunch time and then it's too late and they take it.. like good little sheep. The Iraqi people are getting shafted and there's no reason for anyone to do anything about it. Spoils of war indeed.

You are quite right, of course, that it comes as no surprise.
It will surely though stop any further weak and pathetic attempts, by anybody, to pin a noble cause to the collective lapel.

I'm afraid I disagree. Mind you, I think it SHOULD stop any further weak and pathetic attempts, by anybody, to pin a noble cause to the collective lapel, but, alas - it won't. There are still plenty of people around here playing "pin the noble cause on the lapel" - blindfolded. They suck at it, to be sure, but they keep trying.

*sigh* This is true enough.
I think I said that in a sudden (admittedly very grumpy) surge of relief in the face of the most depressing I-told-you-so moment ever.
