the poppy
11.13.06 (8:06 pm)   [edit]

"he is not here; but far away
the noise of life begins again,
and ghastly through the drizzling rain
on the bald streets breaks the blank day."

I'm drawn to the red. Though sadly, not the poppy..

I keep seeing the red as drops of blood... although the one near the guy's hand makes it look like he's holding a dart.

Darts. Blood. ..and that dark face which looks to me like the head of a burned corpse.

Guess either the picture makes me feel sad or scared, or I'm just projecting what I already feel onto the picture.

You know, I always urge my students (in psychiatric nursing) to consider that addiction is likely a misguided longing for merger with the Divine reality. If the first consumption of some opiate substance yielded ecstasy, is it unreasonable to pursue subsequent such experiences?

12 Step programs are psychospiritual in nature and structure. There's surely no coincidence that they yet offer the most effective strategies for recovery!

This series of images is absolutely devastating - blood, oblivion and death all in pursuit of ecstasy.

Terribly decent of you, though the credit for the words most certainly must go to Mr. Tennyson.

Thank you,

I sometimes find myself torn between the poppy being incredibly significant, and a little trite
This time, however, there were enough moments, and enough stoically blinked-back whatevers observed to make it ok.

As always, thank you.

To be honest it started as a very gentle, if a little lonely, scene. I spotted the two sitting by the river, one with stick and string dipped in the water, the other with nose dipped in book.
The rest came later.

Thank you, cutter.

You sound like a terribly interesting, and therefore utterly decent, teacher.

Thank you for leaving me your thoughts.
I value them greatly.

I think that one of the many reasons I enjoy viewing your work is because it plays easily into the way I view my world. Everything is a "metaphor" to me. To me, life is one big Tarot card, just waiting to be interpreted.
