I'm sure that I'll have more to say on this, but for now I just have to mention that this reminds me of "doodle art". Don't know if you're familiar with the product, but back in the 70's (early 80's, at the latest) they used to sell rather intricate black ink drawings for kids to color with markers (the markers were usually included in the set, I think).

Thanks for the retro moment! ;)

I looked up the "doodle art" thing. Seems that they're still around.

Anyway... back to your drawing...

what I tend to do with drawings that look so involved is to search for something hidden. Perhaps it's my own "conspiracy theory" or paranoia-laden mind, but often, when I see a lot, I interpret it as the attempt to cover up something which someone needs to say, but is afraid to say outright.

In that line of thinking, the beard, the cigar, and the writing are the "red herrings". Whatever it is (I can't quite make it out.) on the ground, to the left and behind the guy in the black pants, is what I am inclined to say is at the core of this piece.

(It's tough for me to make out a lot of the detail though.)

If the picture's too small, and you'd like, I could email you a bigger version.
Let me know.

It's not so much the size, but the clarity. Even when I enlarge it, it's still tough to make some things out. Maybe that's part of what is influencing my insights though. My focus is going to what is difficult to see clearly.

Just visited a page refreshing my mind about the Pied Piper myth. Strikes me that the theme of catastrophic revenge is really important (like the WTC??)

The Pied Piper made good on a contract to rid the town of rats, and the town defaulted on the agreed-upon fee.

Then the Pied Piper returned to ride the same town of their children. Strange theme, eh? Kinda like when Jehovah slaughtered all the first-born in Egypt to make avenge Pharoah's breaking the promise to let the people of Moses go.

Who's been jilted by the man with the cigar? (And pity, all the others will suffer for that failed agreement.)

Wow - way too much thinking involved in this one, dejongleur. There goes a couple of mind hours, lol. Thank-you once again for firing up the neurons!

Terribly good of you to spend a wee while looking, and talking to me a little.
I appreciate the company.
