posted by: jennifer (reply) post date: 11.03.05 (8:53 am) I can remember way back when (at least a Brazilian years ago now) when we would lob great heaping piles of political whatnot back and forth at each other... lamenting the state of the world and my country in particular. These branches of our long, meandering conversation often resulted in a few ruffled feathers and more than a little profanity. Despite the fact that we live on the same side of the proverbial fence, I'd regularly emerge from such dialogues ashamed for my country and myself, but better for having had the opportunity to talk about issues that connect me to the outside world ~ a world that time and again finds itself looking in on the happenings within my particular fishbowl only to shake its collective head or, in some cases, fists in disbelief, disgust and/or rage. Words frequently fail me when I try to describe the sinking embarrassment that washes over me when I consider myself in terms of nationality and the reality that *this* is the face that is now most associated with my country and my people. That said, I guess what I'm trying to say here (blueberry ice-cream) is that, in your own quiet way, you've managed to capture all of that (and much more) in your latest offering to the world. To say I like it would be wrong... but I will say that I very much like that it pushes me to think about things that continue to need thinking and talking about. Thank you. posted by: keidz (reply) post date: 11.09.05 (3:02 pm) nice work! love your sketches! too bad i just saw your work only today... anywaiz... i'll be dropping by often from now on... rock on! Our wandering through the bits and bobs of it all is the way I make sense of things. Thank you for looking, for talking, and for making me feel ok. |
